Hobbing machines are used to manufacture spur gears and splines. In some respects, they are similar to a milling machine and use a rotary cutting tool called a “hob” to cut teeth or splines into a part. The gear teeth can be cut very accurately and economically using this method. Hobs are especially useful for cutting coarse or deep gears, or gear teeth in difficult materials. Our hobbing capability nicely complements our rack rolling capability.
