Machine Spotlight: Citizen CNC Turning Machines

164147200 (2)Did you know that Citizen machines are the most widely accepted Swiss-type CNC turning machines in the world?

What we, at Standby Screw, love about these machines is that they can produce an extensive variety of products.  From electronics, fiber optics, automobiles, tools, valves, and fasteners, the sliding headstock technology paired with a guide that offers an extra point of material support for an efficient machining process.

These turning centers are able to eliminate material vibration and harmonics in order to provide precise machining.  Citizen turning machines are ideal for producing simple and complex parts that require multiple operations!

Machine Spotlight: Hydromat Rotary & In-Line

Did you know that the basic principle of hydromat machines stays the same, whether it is a rotary or in-line machine?

The modular designs of these hydromat machines are simple, flexible, and efficient and the result is efficient, high production of high quality products. The great part about these machines is that they reduce downtime and that there are no secondary operations that will come at a high cost.

Hydromat machines come as a complete turnkey system that are available in different sizes and equipped with different amounts of stations.  Hydromat machines can perform:

-drilling, cross drilling

-external and internal recessing

-broaching & more!

These machines are extremely efficient and assist our operations at Standby Screw, greatly!

Machine Spotlight: Brown & Sharpe Single Spindle Screw Machine

478337607 (2)Whether there is a need for a single piece or high volume production, the Brown & Sharpe single spindle screw machine will get the job done. It is a high-speed machine that makes production much more efficient!

Brown & Sharpe screw machines have been a cornerstone of American manufacturing for many decades, as they are known to be a best production solution for many turned bar products.

Machine of the Week: Acme Multi-Spindle Screw Machine

screw-machineAt Standby Screw, we use a variety of machines that make our operations just that much more efficient. The machine we’d like to tell you about this week is the Acme Multi-Spindle Screw Machine. Here are some important features of the machine and how it operates!

-Used to mass produce large quantities of precision turned parts with a very short cycle time

-Operates by progressive and simultaneous machining on all spindles with multiple tools

-For example, bar machines feed our the bar stock to the proper length, tools advance into the work piece at the proper feed rate and properly retract when work is complete

These types of operations can be accomplished with the Acme Multi-Spindle Screw Machine:

-ID & OD Threading

-Accelerated Reaming

-Hi-speed drilling

-Cross drilling

-Milling flats

-& more!

Welcome Our Newest Addition: A Second Robot Cell

We are happy to announce that we have added a second robot cell to our plant! This second cell is very useful as it combines with some types of inspections systems that can monitor dimensional variances.  These systems then give immediate feedback on the process being performed.

Adding this second robot cell makes the detection of potential quality issues much greater and minimizes scrap. Our primary use of robots is to load/unload machines and the transfer of parts within a machining cell.

Why are these robots so productive and useful? :

-Robots produce accurate and high quality work

-Robots rarely make mistakes and are very precise

-They can produce a greater quantity in a short amount of time

-They can work at a constant speed with no breaks, days off, or holiday time

-They can perform applications with more repeatability than humans

-Robots save time by being able to produce a greater magnitude of products

-They also reduce the amount of wasted material used due to their accuracy

-Robots save companies money in the long run with quick return on investment, fewer worker injuries

(reducing or eliminating worker’s comp), and with using less materials.

173260228 (2)We also appreciate the fact that robots keep operations running more smoothly and much more safely for plant workers. They take over dangerous, heavy-lifting, and hazardous tasks in any environment. Standby Screw is excited to be able to put this second robot cell to helpful, efficient use!

Standby Screw Breaks Into the Hydraulic Hose Industry

For the first time in our company’s existence, we are providing parts for the hydraulic hose industry. We are excited to share this news, as hydraulic hose fittings are new parts we are manufacturing.  We will be dedicating 4-5 machines for this process at our Ohio facility.

453439427 (2)The hose and tubing industry covers many applications and a variety of materials are used for hose and tubing manufacturing, such as rubber, stainless steel thermoplastic, or fluoropolymer. In every case where the hose and tubing industry is prevalent, the job requires that the product keep the environment safe.

At Standby Screw, we are dedicated to manufacturing safe, high-quality parts and we are anxious to see where this new venture will lead us. Stay tuned!

Industry Spotlight: Chippers & Shredders

What is your main use for chippers and shredders? At Standby Screw, we manufacture parts that are crucial to the efficient operation of these machines.

wood chipperBasically, wood chippers/shredders are machines that reduce wood, for instance tree branches and trunks, into small pieces, or wood chips. What’s great about these machines is that they are often portable, mounted on wheels or frames suitable for being towed behind a truck or van.

Wood chippers/shredders are comprised of several different parts, which include a hopper, a collar, a chipper, and a collection bin. An internal power source, typically a combustion engine, is what gets these machines going.

Wood chippers/shredders are incredible machines that are used by different industries that get a variety of tasks accomplished. Have a question about our wood chipper/shredder manufacturing? Ask us!

Industry Spotlight: CNC Programming

Did you know that Standby Screw uses PartMaker CAD/CAM for our CNC Programming? The Delcam PartMaker is the world-leading CAM software for production machining. programming

PartMaker applies two unique patented technologies for automating the programming of multi-axis Turn-Mill Centers and Swiss-type lathes and has been developed specifically to support the unique capabilities of these machines intuitively.

A unique feature is the powerful 3D simulation that allows you to visualize the entire manufacturing process to avoid costly errors and collisions before sending the NC program to the machine.

If your goal is to have a CAM system that:

  • Reduces machine setup time for new jobs by over 50%
  • Gives you the power to take on tough jobs but is easy to use
  • Programs all CNC machines
  • Generates correct NC codes

At Standby Screw, we appreciate innovation that makes tough tasks easier and makes production time more efficient. Get more details on the PartMaker, here.
